The Road Transport Department (JPJ) announced that eligible Malaysians holding Singapore driving licences can apply for the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) program through a dedicated website which will go live on Oct. 16, Paultan reported.
According to JPJ, applications will be vetted by the Ministry of Finance, based on several criteria: applicants must be Malaysian citizens, hold valid Singapore driving licences and have legal work permits in Singapore.
Applicants will be able to check their eligibility status 14 days after submission through the main Budi95 portal website, The Star reported.
The initiative targets Malaysians working across the Causeway, especially those in essential and service sectors such as bus drivers and operations staff, who were previously excluded from the RON95 subsidy because of their Singapore-issued licences.
A subsidy scheme announced Sept. 22 allows Malaysians to purchase RON95 fuel at MYR1.99 (US$0.47) per liter, a nearly 3% discount from market price.
Under existing regulations, only Malaysian-registered vehicles qualify for subsidized RON95 fuel, and individuals cannot hold both Malaysian and Singaporean driving licences at once. However, those who no longer work in Singapore can cancel their Singapore licence and reapply for a Malaysian one.
