A traffic police major in Ho Chi Minh City has been suspended pending an investigation into his conduct, where he allegedly berate a motorbike rider.

According to a statement released by the HCMC traffic police department on Sunday, the suspension is intended to verify allegations that the officer engaged in improper behavior while on duty on Feb. 7.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was part of a team patrolling the Nguyen Van Linh roundabout area in Binh Chanh District at the time of the incident.

The altercation began when officers signaled a woman riding a motorbike to stop after she entered a road where motorbikes are prohibited. A traffic police report noted that the woman used her phone to record the encounter and contacted others.

Video footage circulating on social media appears to show the officer saying a series of insults to the woman: "Are you deaf? Do you understand Vietnamese? What did I say to you? Are you kidding me?"

The woman appeared timid in her responses, and accepted the fine.
