Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City is set to handle a surge in traffic during the National Day holiday from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3, with an estimated 120,000 travelers expected to pass through its terminals each day.

This represents an 8% increase from normal days' levels, but down 2% company from last year's holiday, which also lasted four days.

The peak days are expected to be Aug. 30 for departures and Sept. 3 for arrivals, with up to 125,000 passengers and approximately 730 flights scheduled on each of those days. Overall, the airport will manage around 700 flights daily, a 5% rise compared to the usual 660 flights per day.

The airport has implemented plans to ensure smooth operations, focusing on passenger service, security, and safety.

It is coordinating with various stakeholders to keep flight operations running smoothly, particularly during peak hours.

The airport will deploy volunteers from its youth union and the Vietnam Aviation Academy. These volunteers will assist passengers at security checkpoints and in public areas of the domestic terminal during peak hours, from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. , between Aug. 30 and Sept. 3. Additionally, ground service teams are prepared to manage the increased number of nighttime flights.

During the peak summer period from May 15 to Aug. 15, 2024, the airport served over 10.465 million passengers, averaging 113,755 daily. Of these, more than 4.122 million were international travelers, while domestic passengers accounted for over 6.342 million.

Despite this high volume, the total number of passengers was down 8.3% from 2023, and the number of flights dropped by 10%.
