The driver, employed by District 1's Public Utility Service Co., Ltd., received the fine from traffic police on Monday for driving on a restricted road.
The incident occurred on the night of Oct. 20 when the garbage truck driver was traveling from Duong Ba Trac Street in District 8 towards Nguyen Van Linh Street in Binh Chanh District. The dispute arose after the truck driver encountered a 30-year-old taxi driver moving in the same direction.
Following the argument, the truck driver stopped in front of the taxi and, using a metal pipe, smashed the vehicle's side mirror. The entire altercation was captured on dash cam.
During questioning, the garbage truck driver explained that the argument began when he was unable to overtake the taxi.
Police confirmed that he had violated traffic regulations by entering a restricted road.
The act of breaking the cab's side mirror, estimated to have caused VND3 million (US$118.53) in damages, has been transferred to Binh Chanh District Police for further investigation.
