A bus carrying foreign tourists brakes in time to avoid colliding heads-on with a truck in northern Vietnam, Sept. 21, 2025. Video by Anh Duc
The incident happened on Sept. 21 along National Highway 2 in Hung An Commune of Tuyen Quang Province. Dashcam footage shows the bus traveling at a steady pace when a truck suddenly veered across the center line while trying to overtake on a blind curve.
As the vehicles closed in on each other, the truck driver slammed the brakes and swerved back, sending the tail of the truck fishtailing dangerously toward the bus. The bus driver reacted instantly, braking hard and narrowly avoiding a direct crash.
Shaken passengers, many of them foreign visitors, applauded and thanked the bus driver for his composure under pressure.
Traffic experts say overtaking at blind curves is strictly prohibited, even where broken center lines appear, because of limited visibility and the risk of oncoming vehicles.
Vietnam sets fines of VND20–22 million (US$790–870) and a 10-point license penalty for illegal overtaking that causes accidents.
