Flying out of Thailand will soon cost more, with departure fees set to rise by more than 50% at six of the country's busiest international airports starting May 2026.

Thailand plans to raise its passenger service charge (PSC) on outbound international flights to 1,120 baht (US$35), up from the current 730 baht, according to the country's airport operator Airports of Thailand.

The higher fee will apply to travelers departing from Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Bangkok, as well as Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Charges for domestic flights will remain unchanged, Mothership reported.

The proposed increase, which represents a 53% hike, has received in-principle approval from Thailand's aviation authorities and is awaiting final sign-off from the transport minister, Bangkok Post reported.

Airports of Thailand said the higher fee is unlikely to deter travelers, arguing that passenger demand is driven more by airfares and overall travel costs than by airport charges alone. Unlike many countries, Thailand does not levy similar fees on inbound or transit passengers.

Revenue from the revised charge is expected to reach around 10 billion baht per year, which authorities say will be used to upgrade airport security systems and passenger facilities, including restrooms, power supply and air-conditioning. Part of the additional income will also be set aside to help fund future airport projects and ease debt-related costs.
