A 34-year-old driver has been fined VND13 million (US$493) for illegally stopping on the My Thuan–Can Tho Expressway in southern Vietnam to fly a drone and film a TikTok video.

Police said the man was driving a seven-seat vehicle on Oct. 2 along the expressway linking Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces. In My Thuan Commune, Vinh Long, he parked in the emergency lane and launched a drone to film the scenery for about 10 minutes before posting the footage online.

During questioning, he said he stopped because the view was "beautiful" and claimed he was unaware he was violating traffic rules.

Besides the fine, he also had six points deducted from his license. Under Vietnam's point-based system, each driver's license starts with 12 points; losing all points leads to a driving ban, and offenders must wait at least six months before retaking the test.

Inaugurated in late 2023, the 23-km, four-lane My Thuan–Can Tho Expressway runs through Vinh Long and Dong Thap and has reduced travel time between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho to just over two hours, down from nearly four hours via National Highway 1A.
