All vehicles will be prohibited on 10 downtown Ho Chi Minh City streets Saturday night to make room for people watching fireworks and other celebrations.

On this year's National Day, the city will perform fireworks for 15 minutes from 9 p.m. at two locations: one end of the Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City, and at Dam Sen theme park in District 11.

To ensure safety and limit congestion as large numbers of people congregate in the city center, vehicles will not be allowed to enter Nguyen Hue Street from Le Loi to Ton Duc Thang streets from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., the no-vehicles area will comprise part of Ton Duc Thang Street, Ba Son Bridge, part of Dong Khoi Street, Ham Nghi Street, part of Vo Van Kiet Boulevard, part of Hai Trieu Street, Ho Huan Nghiep Street and part of Ngo Duc Ke Street.

A section of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street from Hoang Dieu to the Khanh Hoi Bridge in District 4 will also be blocked to traffic, and the Ba Son bridge will also be closed, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.

Vehicles traveling between District 1 and District 4 will be directed to take alternate routes using the Calmette Bridge. Those moving between Thu Duc City and District 1 will be guided through a detour using Thu Thiem Bridge instead of the tunnel and Ba Son Bridge.
