A car driver in Hai Phong tried to ram a squad of police officers who had flagged him Sunday, forcing one to jump on its hood to save himself.

Hoang Trung Hieu, 35, turned himself in to the An Lao District police on Monday and was officially put in detention on Tuesday.

At around 3 p.m. on Sunday Hieu was driving a sedan on National Highway 10 towards Thai Binh Province When he reached an intersection in An Lao and sped past a red light.

Some police officers present there ordered him to stop but he did not heed it and instead drove straight at them.

One of them jumped on the car for dear life and clung to the windshield.

But Hieu did not stop even then and continued to drive for another seven kilometers. He slowed down on a road in Dai Thang Commune just enough for the officer to jump off before again driving away.

The incident was captured on video and uploaded on social media.
