A police officer walking on a street in the central Gia Lai Province was killed instantly after being hit by a pair of detached container truck wheels.

Captain Pham Hong Vuong, 33, of the An Nhon Bac Ward police department, was walking along National Highway 19B on Saturday afternoon when a container truck driven by Le Duc Loi, a local, traveling in the same direction, suddenly had an axle shaft broken, causing a pair of wheels to fly off.

The wheels struck Vuong from behind.

They then continued to roll, damaging two parked motorbikes.

A wheel can weigh 45-160 kg depending on the size of the container truck, which could be 20 feet or 40 feet long.

Vuong is married with two children.
