Citizen reports deputy police chief for not wearing helmet on motorbike

A Hanoi ward's deputy police chief and his wife have been fined after a citizen reported them for riding a motorbike without helmets.

The officer, of O Cho Dua Ward in Dong Da District, was fined VND1 million ($39.57) on Wednesday and had his license revoked, while his wife was fined VND500,000, according to police of Trung Liet Ward.

A resident submitted photographic evidence via the iHanoi application showing the couple riding on Hoang Cau Street on Jan. 27 without helmets. The evidence was verified by police of Dong Da District.

The deputy chief acknowledged his mistake, explaining they had lost their helmets while shopping and could not find a replacement before heading home.
