The bus was transporting 21 people, including 19 Chinese tourists, a Vietnamese driver and a tour guide, on the Khanh Le Pass at around 11 a.m. As the bus was running in Khanh Vinh District, it encountered a problem which forced it to ram into a cliff next to the road.
The impact severely damaged the bus and injured several people. Authorities later deployed forces to take the injured to Khanh Hoa General Hospital. The hospital said two people were severely injured, while the rest only received mild injuries.
Pham Ngoc Huu, chairman of Son Thai Commune, said the driver told the police that the bus's brake malfunctioned as it went down the pass, forcing the driver to ram it into the cliff. At the time of the incident, there was thick fog in the area.
The Khanh Le Pass, spanning 33 km and located 1,700 m above sea level, lies on National Highway 27 and connects Nha Trang with Da Lat, both popular tourist destinations. The path has several turns, along with high cliffs. Thick fog has been observed in the area over the last few days, obstructing vision.
