The line is 32.5 kilometers long, comprising a 29-kilometer main route and a 3.4-kilometer link from HCMC's Thu Duc City to Binh Duong.
Estimated to cost over VND64.3 trillion (US$2.52 billion), the line will have 19 stations and one depot.
Designed with a 1,435 mm gauge, double-track technology, and a maximum speed of 120 km/h, the project is slated to begin construction in 2027 and finish by 2031.
A separate 19-kilometer spur connecting to the line to Trang Bom District in Dong Nai Province will cost around VND30 trillion.
HCMC and its neighbors Dong Nai and Binh Duong form a major industrial hub in southern Vietnam.
Vo Van Minh, chairman of Binh Duong, stressed the metro line's crucial role in boosting the province's socio-economic development and enhancing regional connectivity.
He urged provincial departments to finalize the necessary documentation for submission to the National Assembly in May, seeking approval for the project's investment policy.
