The incident occurred on Sunday evening along Jalan Pantai in Johor state, Malaysia.
According to local police, the 57-year-old Malaysian driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle, swerving into the opposite lane and crashing head-on into a car carrying the young boy and his family, The Straits Times reported.
The impact threw the boy out of the vehicle. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Subsequent investigations revealed the driver tested positive for methamphetamine and had no license. Authorities have detained him, and he is currently cooperating with investigators, facing charges including driving under the influence, CNA reported.
Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate-General in Johor Bahru, has been providing consular assistance and support to the victim's family during this difficult period.
