4 Vietnamese fishermen die as boat rammed by Panama ship in mist

A Panamanian cargo ship collided with a Vietnamese fishing boat off Vietnam's northern port city Hai Phong on Tuesday, killing four fishermen.

The Panamanian-flagged Hosei Crown was sailing from Chua Ve port in Hai Phong to the Philippines when it rammed into the fishing boat with 12 crew members on board at around 5:45 a.m.

On receiving the report, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region I instructed the Hosei Crown to release life rafts and search for the missing fishermen and dispatched The SAR 411 rescue ship to the scene.

By 9:10 a.m. rescuers had found eight of the fishermen and recovered the bodies of the four others.

According to preliminary information, the sea area was foggy at the time of the accident and winds were blowing at 12-28 km per hour.

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center is investigating the cause of the accident together with other relevant agencies.
