In a recent proposal sent to the Ministry of Construction, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the department noted that Terminal T3, once operational in May, will expand the airport's total capacity to 50 million passengers per year.
The department has recommended that the airport designate specific locations in front of the new terminal for passenger pick-up and drop-off by bus. It has also requested approval from the Ministry of Construction to operate around 20 bus routes connecting passengers directly to Terminal T3.
According to the current schedule, Terminal T3 will serve domestic flight operations by Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air. Other domestic carriers, including Vasco, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, and Pacific Airlines, will continue operating from Terminal T1.
Alongside the city's bus connectivity plan, Tan Son Nhat Airport is developing a shuttle service to transport passengers between the existing terminals and the newly completed T3.
Terminal T3 will have an annual capacity of 20 million passengers, making it Vietnam's largest domestic terminal. Funded by ACV, the nearly VND11 trillion (US$445 million) project began construction at the end of 2022, with major work on the passenger terminal starting in August 2023.
The terminal is set to open two months ahead of the original schedule.
To improve access to Terminal T3, a 4-kilometer-long Tran Quoc Hoan–Cong Hoa connector road will also be inaugurated. This new roadway aims to boost connectivity between key city infrastructure and reduce congestion in the heavily trafficked Tan Son Nhat area- one of HCMC's most complex traffic hotspots.
