The discovery was made during a post-flight maintenance check on Monday, JetBlue said in a statement, as reported by CNN. The airline added that the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
Carey Codd, spokesperson for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, said autopsies will be conducted to determine the cause of death. A law enforcement official said the bodies were severely decomposed, the New York Times reported.
The aircraft had flown from New York City and arrived in Fort Lauderdale at approximately 11:10 p.m. local time, according to data from the flight-tracking service FlightAware.
JetBlue stated that it is cooperating fully with authorities in their investigation.
