A 19-year-old man was fined VND6.5 million (US$256) for kicking a rider off his motorcycle to avenge a near collision in Ho Chi Minh City.

Police in Binh Tan District issued the fine on Friday, for the incident occurring on Nov. 20.

The young man, riding with his girlfriend, overtook a motorcyclist carrying a load of goods on Huong Lo 3 Street at the border Tan Phu and Binh Tan districts that day.

Dash cam footage shows a young man kicks a motorcycle on a street of HCMC, Nov. 20, 2024.

He then kicked the front wheel of the motorcycle carrying goods, causing the rider to fall to the road.

The motorcyclist was unharmed, got up, and continued his journey. The young man and his girlfriend then sped away.

The incident was recorded by a car's dashcam, and the young man was later fined by police for "intentionally causing injury." The case did not lead to criminal prosecution.

In questioning, he admitted that he got angry because the motorcyclist, carrying a load, almost collided with his bike, so kicked his motorcycle in retaliation.
