A tractor-trailer hit a barrier and flipped over on the HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway Tuesday morning, blocking traffic and causing it to backup for almost three km.

At around 4:30 a.m. the vehicle was traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Tien Giang Province in the Mekong Delta when it plowed into the barrier in the province's Thu Thua District.

It knocked over a lamppost before turning turtle.

The accident caused no casualties, but blocked the road for around four hours until police arrived and removed it at around 8 a.m.

Due to the blockage, vehicles had to use National Highway 1A instead.

The HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway, the only high-speed road connecting HCMC with the delta, has seen traffic increase by 30 percent and more than 200 accidents since toll collection was stopped in January 2019.

The 62km four-lane highway allows vehicles a maximum speed of 100 kph.
