Thousands of tourists queued up for a free Hanoi City Tour double-decker bus ride Saturday despite the hot weather.

Thu Huong from Hai Duong Province and three of her family had to wait for over an hour to get on the two-level bus to travel around some of the most popular tourist attractions in the capital.

"We are visiting Hanoi for the holiday. We heard that the bus was offering free trips and wanted to have the experience despite the heat," Huong said.

Many others also queued for a ride. Some left after a long wait while others tried to arrive early to be among the first in line.

Hanoi City Tour is offering four double-deckers for free during the five-day national holiday from April 30 to May 5.

There is a trip every 30 minutes. Each bus can transport 54 passengers. Together the four buses can serve 1,500 passengers a day.

The operator has a total of six vehicles, and starting Sunday it said there would be five buses offering the free service to meet high demand.

On a normal day, a double-decker ticket costs VND196,000 for two hours and 450,000 for the whole day.
