The man responsible for a deadly shooting at Or Tor Kor market in Bangkok on July 28 was a former employee of the market, according to the Royal Thai Police.

The incident took place at 12:31 p.m., when the suspect, identified as a former employee of the market, suddenly opened fire on people inside, killing at least five security personnel and injuring three others. After the attack, the gunman took his own life at the scene, police said.

The shooting stemmed from a personal dispute, with the suspect holding a long-running grudge against one of the security guards.

"We obtained this information from his wife's testimony," officer Sayam Boonsom told reporters at the scene.

Or Tor Kor Market, a well-known fresh food market, is located near Chatuchak market, a popular destination among international tourists and especially crowded on weekends.

Thailand has experienced several mass shootings in recent years amid concerns that its gun control law remains lax, allowing relatively easy access to firearms.
