A teacher in northern Vietnam has been dismissed after she punished three third graders with caning that left bruises on their buttocks.

The dismissal of Vu Thi Hoai, 24, came as she violated the Ministry of Education's regulations on teacher behavior, Le Cong Thiep, head of Kien Thuy District's Education Department in Hai Phong City, said Tuesday.

On Jan. 26, the information of the three boys being beaten to the point that they got bruises all over their buttocks was posted on social media by their families, causing public outrage.

On Jan. 14, the boys failed to do their homework, and Hoai decided to cane them using a wooden ruler.

She later told authorities she did not thrash the boys herself but made other children in the class do it.

As reported by their families, the boys could not sit and refused to return to school out of fear.

Hoai later visited their homes to apologize.

The administration of Kien Thuy then requested district education authorities to "deal with Hoai's behavior at the strictest level."

The principal of the school has also been reprimanded.
