HCMC police and the Department of Health are looking into the case of a Taiwanese woman who died after surgery at a cosmetic facility.

Inspectors at the city's health department said Tuesday that the woman aged 45 went to Korean Star Cosmetic Surgery Specialty Hospital in District 10 for cosmetic surgery on April 2.

She was discharged from the hospital the next day and returned to her residence in Dong Nai Province that borders the city.

On April 7, she started having difficulties breathing and talking. Her family brought her to Thong Nhat General Hospital in Dong Nai where she was given emergency aid. She died two days later.

Dong Nai and HCMC police as well as the city’s health department are investigating.

The cause of death is yet to be announced, but the cosmetic facility is being held accountable.

HCMC has recorded several deaths after cosmetic surgery in recent months.

Last December, a 25-year-old woman died after receiving anesthetic injections at Key Beauty Center for a process to remove fat from her arms.

Also last year, a 61-year-old woman died after having a breast augmentation by using her own body fat at Kangnam Saigon in April and a 33-year-old woman died after having a breast enlargement at HCMC Orthopedics and Rehabilitation Hospital in March.
