The airline is intended to support the sustainable development of Phu Quoc, contributing to its growth as a regional aviation hub and internationally recognized destination, while providing more direct flight options for Vietnamese and international passengers.
Phu Quoc recently became a special administrative zone under An Giang Province and was selected to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027, an event expected to welcome around 10,000–12,000 delegates, including heads of state and government leaders from 21 APEC economies. The anticipated increase in demand for air travel further highlights the need for enhanced connectivity.

A representative of Sun PhuQuoc Airways said, "An airline with a modern fleet, strategic roadmap, and clear development vision can play a key role in strengthening aviation and tourism infrastructure, benefiting local communities."
The launch complements Sun Group's ongoing investment in expanding Phu Quoc International Airport and supports the integrated aviation–tourism growth model for the island, recently named Asia's most beautiful island and the world's third-best by U.S. magazine Condé Nast Traveler.
At the event, Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of Sun Group, highlighted that Sun PhuQuoc Airways aims to expand travel opportunities and facilitate leisure and tourism in Phu Quoc for both domestic and international visitors, offering direct flights, competitive fares, and seamless travel experiences. "Aviation completes our tourism ecosystem, supporting the broader goal of making Phu Quoc and Vietnam leading destinations in the region and the world," Truong said.

The launch ceremony, themed "Symphony of the Sun," recreated the experience of the airline's first flight, featuring a mock check-in counter, VIP lounge, boarding bridge, in-flight safety demonstration, and fine dining service to reflect the journey from departure to arrival.
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the cabin crew uniform collection, inspired by Vietnam's cultural heritage, including the Northern Vietnamese ao ngu than (five-panel tunic) and the elegance of Empress Nam Phuong. The uniform features a chocolate-brown palette with layers including a high-collar blouse, pencil skirt, tailored vest or cape, accented with a hat and bow. Pilots' uniforms follow standard aviation designs with white shirts, red ties, and navy blazers. Accessories such as wing-shaped badges and airplane tie clips complete the ensemble. A representative noted that the uniforms symbolize hospitality and professionalism, reflecting Vietnam's culture to passengers.

Prior to its official launch, the airline received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Approved Training Organization (ATO) license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on Sept. 25. The airline has taken delivery of three aircraft, including Airbus A321NX and A321CEO models, with a fleet planned to reach 25 by the end of 2026 and around 30-35 by 2027.
Operational systems, safety procedures, and a hub-and-spoke route network connecting Phu Quoc with major domestic and international destinations are in place, aiming to reduce travel times and minimize reliance on connecting flights.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways has also secured financing agreements with three major Vietnamese banks—BIDV, VietinBank, and MBBank—to fund future aircraft purchases. CEO Nguyen Manh Quan stated, "This collaboration provides both financial support and affirmation of our long-term vision and sustainable growth plan."
