Storm Noru forces five more airports to close in Vietnam

In the Central Highlands, Buon Ma Thuot Airport in Dak Lak Province will be closed from Tuesday to Wednesday noon while Lien Khuong Airport in Lam Dong Province, not far from Da Lat, will be closed from 4 p.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Tuy Hoa Airport in Phu Yen Province will stay closed from 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. the following day.

Vinh Airport in Nghe An Province will close for one hour from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday while Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh will close from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. the next day.

Aviation authorities had announced on Monday night that five airports in the central region would be temporarily closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Among them, Chu Lai Airport in Quang Nam Province will be closed from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. the following day.

The airports of Da Nang, Phu Bai, Phu Cat and Pleiku, located respectively in Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Binh Dinh and Gia Lai will be closed from Tuesday to Wednesday noon.

Vietnam Airlines said it would cancel 148 flights to ten airports, affecting around 14,000 passengers.

The Vietnam Railways Corporation announced the cancelation of two trips on the north-south route on Tuesday and Wednesday.

At 1 p.m. Tuesday, the storm lay around 270 kilometers from the central coast from Da Nang to Quang Ngai and carried a wind speed of 183 kph, up from 166 kph late Monday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

At around 1 a.m. Wednesday, the storm will lay along the coast from Thua Thien Thue to Quang Ngai Provinces with winds of 150-183 kph.
