Segyung Vina Co., Ltd., the Vietnamese branch of South Korea's Segyung HiTech Co., expressed sincere apologies to the Vietnamese government, the people of Vietnam, the Korean community in Vietnam, and all parties affected by the incident, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The incident first gained public attention on Monday, when a video went viral on social media.
According to the post, the Vietnamese women were using the photo booth around 9 p.m. on July 11, having paid in full and stayed within their allotted time.
However, two South Korean women waiting outside began to hurl insults and demand that they leave.
When one of the Vietnamese women protested, one of the South Korean women allegedly attacked her, grabbing her hair and repeatedly striking her on the head, face and body.
The other Korean woman pretended to stop the fight but also grabbed the Vietnamese woman's hair, according to South Korean media outlets.
Segyung Vina has confirmed that one of the assailants was an employee based at its South Korean headquarters.
The assault occured during her trip to Vietnam from July 9 to 14, outside working hours and was not reported to the company until noon on July 14, it said.
Upon learning of the incident, the company held an emergency meeting, contacted the victims and the photobooth's management, and began cooperating closely with local police to investigate and resolve the matter, it said, Thanh Nien newspaper reported.
The company pledged to provide full compensation to the victims.
Many South Korean netizens have expressed outrage and shame that their compatriots had verbally abused and assaulted Vietnamese women, calling the incident a "national disgrace."
