South African man assaulted with beer bottles in Ho Chi Minh City nightlife district

A teenager was arrested in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday for attacking a South African man with beer bottles during a brawl on the bustling Bui Vien Walking Street.

Tran Gia Huy, 19, is under investigation for public disorder following the violent incident. According to police, the confrontation began two days earlier when the 38-year-old foreigner visited a beverage shop on Bui Vien, a popular nightlife hotspot in District 1.

An argument erupted between the foreign visitor and store employees, including Huy.

The situation quickly escalated, resulting in Huy and two others physically assaulting the victim. Huy allegedly struck the South African man in the head using beer bottles.

Bystanders recorded the scene, and videos quickly went viral on social media.

Pham Ngu Lao Ward police swiftly responded, taking all involved individuals into custody for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.

Known for its vibrant nightlife, Bui Vien Walking Street frequently attracts both locals and tourists.
