By noon, snow was still falling but had yet to cover roads, rooftops or trees. This marks the first recorded snowfall in northern Vietnam during the winter of 2024-2025, with the last snowfall in this region occurring in December 2022.

Chao Chin Chan, chairman of Thuong Phung Commune, stated that local authorities had been preparing residents for the cold weather for several days, advising people to stockpile food and secure barns to keep livestock and poultry warm.
A strong cold front swept through northern Vietnam last night, bringing rain and a drop in temperatures.
Forecasts predict cold conditions from January 27–29, with daily temperatures ranging from 13–15 degrees Celsius and frost likely in higher elevations where temperatures may drop below 3 degrees Celsius.
Between Dec. 21, 2024, and Jan. 20, 2025, three significant cold fronts hit northern Vietnam. Many mountain peaks during that period were covered in frost.
