Prince Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud has died at 36 after spending 20 years in a coma following a car accident, Saudi Arabia's royal family announced last week.

Prince Alwaleed slipped into a coma in 2005, when he was 15, after a car accident in London caused a severe brain hemorrhage, Newsweek reported.

He remained under constant medical care for two decades and became known worldwide as the "Sleeping Prince."

Despite seeking treatment from top doctors around the world, his condition showed no improvement. In 2015, doctors recommended ending life support, but his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, refused to give up hope for recovery.

In 2020, the prince briefly moved a finger after hearing a woman's voice, sparking a moment of hope that sadly faded, the Economic Times reported.

His funeral prayers and burial ceremonies began on July 20 in Riyadh and will continue for three days.
