A 25-year-old man in Singapore has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly beating a cat and throwing it from the 38th floor of a building, resulting in its death.

Ryan Tan Yi Bin is accused of kicking the cat, stepping on its head and subsequently throwing it off a flat at Block 78 Lorong Limau on Monday, according to Mothership.

He appeared on Tuesday in a Singaporean district court, which did not disclose a motive for his actions, the Straits Times reported.

The trial is adjourned to Oct. 15.

In Singapore, those convicted of animal cruelty can face up to 18 months in prison. Repeated offenders can be jailed for three years.
