A man in Singapore was sentenced to two years and one week in prison for hosting a drug party during Covid-19 restrictions in March 2022.

Edmund Zachary Ong Wei Ming, 33, was a co-host of a birthday party of 36 people at a unit of The Springs condominium, where several drugs were used, during a time when Covid-19 restrictions required a maximum of five people in a group, The Straits Times reported. The sentence was handed out on Tuesday.

Edmund pleaded guilty to three charges, including drug use, allowing drug use, and violating Covid-19 restrictions.

He hosted the party with another Malaysian man named Jonathan Goh Wai Sern, but this man is currently on the run, with an arrest warrant already issued for him.

The party was hosted on March 26, 2022, starting at around 7 p.m. The police arrived at the unit around 6 a.m. the next day, and Edmund was arrested. 22 people at the party tested positive for drugs, the Channel News Asia reported.
