Singapore, known for its strict laws and low crime rates, was named the safest country in Southeast Asia, according to the latest report published by Numbeo, the world's largest database of user-contributed data.

The city-state achieved the highest score in the safety index with 77.4 points on a scale of 100.

Countries with a high safety index are considered very safe.

The report assessed safety in 146 countries and territories worldwide, using public perceptions of safety for walking both day and night, as well as reports of murder, robbery, sexual and physical assault, harassment, and property crime.

According to the report, Singapore has a "high" safety level for walking alone both day and night.

The country of six million people has a "very low" level of crime while violent crimes such as assault and armed robbery are considered "very low", according to Numbeo.

Singapore ranked the 7th safest country in Asia and 9th globally.
