The blaze on the top floor of the five-story Seaprodex building on Dong Khoi Street was visible from hundreds of meters away.
"The fire occurred in the kitchen area, and so it could have been a gas cylinder explosion," Van Huy, 60, who lives opposite the building, said.

The building is around 50 meters away from the Nguyen Hue square, a popular weekend destination. It has dozens of restaurants and coffee shops, but they were closed by the time the fire began.
Firefighters put out the blaze in 30 minutes, but severe loss of property is feared.
