Police in Hanoi on Thursday returned phones that two Russian tourists left on a running taxi earlier that day.

The two women, Lutshenkho Zhanna, 23, and Kushnir Viktoriia, 25, were grabbing a cab to Hang Bong Street in downtown Hoan Kiem District at around 3 a.m. En route, the tourists asked the driver to charge their two phones.

When they reached Hang Bong, they told the driver to wait so they could convert their $100 to Vietnamese dong to pay the fare. But the moment the tourists got out, the driver sped off, along with their two phones.

The incident was allegedly observed by a witness and shared on social media.

Police had summoned the driver in the case for investigation and on Thursday afternoon returned the phones to the tourists.
