Russian expert confirmed as new Covid-19 patient in Vietnam

A 49-year-old Russian man arriving in Vietnam last week has tested positive for the new coronavirus, putting the nation's active cases at 47.

He came to Vietnam to work as an expert for a local company via Bamboo Airways flight QH9495 that landed in the southern city of Can Tho last Saturday. He was sent to quarantine at a centralized camp in southern Bac Lieu Province.

His first test upon arrival was negative and the second test on Wednesday arrived as positive.

On Tuesday, 17 repatriated Vietnamese on the flight, which carried more than 270 passengers, were confirmed positive.

So far, Vietnam has recorded 1,095 infections and 1,010 have recovered, 35 have died with Covid-19 while three other patients died of other diseases after having recovered from Covid-19.

Of the total number of Covid-19 patients, 691 were local transmissions and the rest imported. The nation has gone 28 days without recording a locally transmitted case.

The pandemic has spread across the world, with more than 34.1 million confirmed cases and over 1 million deaths.
