Vietnam and Bulgaria have issued a joint declaration on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries, on the occasion of the official visit to the European country from Oct. 22 to 24 by Party General Secretary To Lam.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relation in 1950, Vietnam and Bulgaria have fostered a traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation based on mutual trust, equality and respect, for the benefit of the peoples of both nations.

The Vietnam - Bulgaria Strategic Partnership is established with the aim of elevating bilateral relations to a new height, both bilaterally and multilaterally. This upgrade will consolidate and enhance existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms while fostering the creation of new ones, thereby deepening cooperation between the two countries.

Within the framework of the Strategic Partnership, Vietnam and Bulgaria will continue to further deepen cooperation, with a view to bringing tangible benefits to their peoples and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in both regions and the world at large, with a focus on six key areas: strengthening political and diplomatic cooperation; strengthening cooperation in defense and security; expanding cooperation in economy and trade; promoting substantive cooperation in science and technology, education and training, agriculture, culture–tourism, sports, labor, environment, and health; strengthening local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges; and strengthening regional and international cooperation.
