President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will pay a state visit to Vietnam from March 27-29, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday.

The visit will be made at the invitation of State President Luong Cuong. This is Lula da Silva's second visit to Vietnam as President of Brazil, after his visit in 2008 during his first term.

Vietnam and Brazil established diplomatic ties in 1989 and a comprehensive partnership in 2007. In November 2024, following talks between President Lula da Silva and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sideline of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, both sides agreed to upgrade ties to a strategic partnership.

Vietnam’s key exports to Brazil include seafood, rubber, textiles, footwear, and steel. In return, it imports soybeans, corn, animal feed, and various types of cotton from Brazil.

In 2024, bilateral trade reached $7.7 billion. Vietnam is currently the fifth-largest importer of Brazilian agricultural products, and both nations see strong potential for further collaboration in sectors such as coffee, rice, and electronics, according to Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
