Police officers would be prohibited from drinking alcohol under any circumstances, according to a proposed draft circular on police etiquette.

The draft, prepared by the Party and Political Affairs Department under the Ministry of Public Security, outlines strict appearance and behavior standards for police personnel.

It restricts officers from consuming alcohol before or during work hours, including breaks. Officers must avoid drunkenness "under any circumstance, anytime, anywhere."

The draft stipulates that police officers must not dye their hair any color other than black, grow their fingernails or toenails excessively long, or have body piercings, except for female officers, who may have piercings limited to the earlobes.

It also includes a complete ban on gambling in any form.

These measures aim to maintain the professional image of police personnel, according to the department.

Additional guidelines in the proposal include prohibiting the wearing of police uniforms while eating or drinking at street eateries, unless work duties require it. Smoking is also banned for officers on duty, within workplaces, conference rooms, and other areas where smoking is restricted.

The Ministry of Public Security is currently seeking public feedback on the proposal.
