Police in the central city of Da Nang are probing the death of a South Korean woman found dead at a hotel’s swimming pool area last week.

Around 6:30 p.m. October 5, police officers in Son Tra District, where the hotel is located, received a report that a foreigner had died of unknown causes in the hotel’s swimming pool area, the city’s Department of Tourism said in a press release on Saturday.

Initial investigations determined that the 38-year-old woman carried South Korean nationality.

City police said they were working with relevant agencies to clarify the cause of death.

The city’s tourism department sent a letter of condolence to the woman's family and asked the hotel to support them with accommodation while making her funeral arrangements.

Vietnam reopened its borders to foreign tourists in mid-March.

In the first nine months this year, Vietnam received over 293,000 South Korean tourists, accounting for 16 percent of total foreign arrivals, according to the General Statistics Office.

Before the pandemic in 2019, Vietnam welcomed nearly 4.3 million South Korean tourists.
