According to New Zealand Customs Service, the drugs were discovered when the woman arrived on Jan. 4 aboard a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore. Officers uncovered 18 vacuum-sealed packages containing a white crystalline substance, which later tested positive for meth, Mothership reported.
Authorities said the haul could produce more than 922,000 individual doses, with an estimated street value of NZ$5.53 million (US$3.2 million).
Court documents cited by The New Zealand Herald show the woman is a New Zealand national, unemployed and listed as having no fixed address. She appeared in court on Jan. 5 and has been remanded in custody until April for a case review hearing.
In New Zealand, importing Class A narcotics, including methamphetamine, carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
