Over 80% of Singaporeans encounter harmful online content

The most frequent types of harmful online content cited by respondents included material supporting illegal activities such as scams, content of a sexual or violent nature, cyberbullying, and material that could cause racial or religious tension, the ministry said.

One in three respondents also reported experiencing harmful online behaviors. Catfishing was the most common, followed by unwanted sexual messages and online harassment.

Over 60% of those surveyed called for stronger regulation to protect Singaporeans from online harms, according to the survey conducted with thousands of citizens and permanent residents aged 15 years and older.
