Military Hospital 175 said on Nov. 7 that more than 40 patients were brought in between the afternoon and late evening of Nov. 6, showing symptoms consistent with food poisoning. Two of them were diagnosed with intestinal infections and are being kept for observation, while the others are being treated as outpatients due to milder symptoms.
Tam Anh General Hospital admitted another 11 patients with similar symptoms.
Victims told doctors they began feeling sick shortly after eating banh mi from the same shop on Nguyen Thai Son Street in Hanh Thong Ward, formerly Go Vap District. By Thursday afternoon, the shop had closed its doors.
The Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department confirmed it has received reports about the incident and is investigating the source of contamination.
