A Vietnamese drug lord who ran a transnational drug trafficking ring and moved 1.6 tons of heroin around even while she was an international fugitive has been arrested, authorities say.

Vu Hoang Oanh, sister of notorious crime boss Dung "Ha," who was killed 2000 in HCMC by Nam Cam, another notorious criminal, has been arrested along with 28 other people, the Ministry of Public Security announced Tuesday.

131 kg of drugs have been seized in the process, the ministry added.

Oanh's crime ring was busted back in 2018, but she managed to escape abroad and an Interpol notice was issued for her arrest.

Even as a fugitive, Oanh continued to recruit more henchmen and charted a drug trafficking route from the Golden Triangle area to Ho Chi Minh City and the northern city of Hai Phong.

They hid the drugs within used car parts, then hired people to transport them to HCMC. The drugs were also transported to a branch of the Bac Viet Transport company in HCMC’s District 12 and later to the company’s headquarters in Hanoi.

The drugs were handed over to Pham The Anh, director of the Sky House Import, Export and Trading company for transport to Hai Phong.

Anh has also been arrested and the police seized 2 kg of drugs and 2 cars during the process.

Oanh, said to be the boss of the trafficking ring that successfully transported over 1.6 tons of drugs, was arrested abroad on September 23.
