Northern Vietnam's lowest temperature on Thursday was 1 degree Celsius as a cold spell is affecting the region for the second day.

The temperature was recorded on Mau Son peak, over 1,500 m above sea level in Lang Son Province.

Several mountainous regions also saw temperatures drop by 3-4 degrees on Thursday compared to the previous morning. High-altitude town Sa Pa was at 4 degrees.

The peaks of Fansipan in Lao Cai Province continued to see snowfall for the second straight day, though the intensity has been lessened. An employee at the peaks of Fansipan said snowfall began at around 2,800 m above sea level, and the snow could be 1-2 cm thick on the peaks.

In Hanoi, the weather is dry on Thursday, with weather stations at the capital recording temperatures at 11-12 degrees. Actual temperatures in the open air should be 2-3 degrees lower.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, temperatures in the north would be 1-2 degrees higher starting Friday, with mountainous regions seeing temperatures at 11-13 degrees, and the midlands and the plains seeing temperatures at 13-15 degrees.
