A batch of 494,400 AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine doses supplied under the Covax facility arrived at Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport Tuesday morning.

The batch has been transported to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology for storage.

With the latest arrival, global vaccine access mechanism Covax has given Vietnam 9.175 million Covid-19 vaccine doses. More than 5 million of these are Moderna vaccine doses and the rest are AstraZeneca.

Vietnam has innoculated nearly 10 million people with at least one vaccine shot. More than a million people have got two shots.

The country has so far received around 19 million Covid-19 vaccine doses of various makers, AstraZeneca accounting for most of them with 11.5 million doses.

Vietnam aims to achieve herd immunity by next year by vaccinating 70 percent of its 96 million population.
