A 17-month-old boy has died after being beaten by two nannies at a private daycare facility in Hanoi.

Thuong Tin District police on Friday arrested Nguyen Thi An, 30, and Nguyen Thi Lanh, 29, for investigation into the "murder."

According to the police, the boy was at the center along with six other toddlers.

On Feb. 23, when a family member came to pick up the child, An and Lanh informed them that he had fallen while playing.

For several days afterward he kept throwing up and passing out, and his parents took him to a hospital.

But on March 1, after a few days at the hospital, doctors said the boy could not be saved and discharged him.

He passed away at home the next day.

When they were interrogated by the police, An and Lanh admitted they had beaten the boy as he kept trying to go out of the center and crying.

The police said he died of traumatic brain injury and cerebral edema.
