A Polish couple has been arrested on Thailand’s tourist island of Koh Phangan after being caught hugging naked in public, claiming they were merely “expressing their love.”

The pair, aged 24 and 27, was first spotted on April 28 embracing without any clothes on in the middle of Ban Tai Road, according to Koh Phangan police chief Apichart Chansamret, the Bangkok Post reported. Shortly after, they were seen again lying naked on the sands of nearby Ban Kai Beach, Khaosod said.

Police instructed the couple to get dressed before placing them under arrest. During questioning, the two Polish nationals said they had intended only to show their affection for one another. However, Thai authorities reminded them that public nudity is a criminal offense, punishable by fines of up to ฿5,000 ($149).

The couple's visas have since been revoked.

This incident comes amid a string of similar cases involving foreign tourists. On April 29, a drunk foreigner was seen wandering naked through the streets of Phuket, while another was spotted unclothed near Bangkok Bank on April 16, according to The Thaiger.
