Ho Chi Minh City is working on banning certain vehicles with over 30 seats from downtown areas.

The measure, proposed by the municipal Department of Transport to the People’s Committee for future deployment, would ban vehicles with over 30 seats from Districts 1, 3, 5 and 10, but would not affect buses that transport students, workers and tourists, among other special cases.

The department would also increase the number of cameras on downtown streets and those near Mien Dong Bus Station in Binh Thanh District, the country's largest, as several of these streets have seen unlicensed coaches trying to pick up passengers.

Two designated parking lots in front of the station, on Dinh Bo Linh Street, have turned into a 'mini bus stop' thanks to the frequency of passenger pickups here, the department stated. Related activities have been said to increase traffic congestion in the area, it added.

The department is also proposing to the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam to upgrade the data analysis system for dashcams to better detect vehicles that have violated the law. It is also proposing to the municipal People’s Committee to utilize technologies for punishing violations.

HCMC has over 100 stops for buses and coaches to pick up and let off passengers.
