The Gia Lai Provincial Military Command announced last Sunday that the mass grave contained the remains of 32 fallen soldiers, although it has not yet been confirmed whether they died during the war against the French or the Americans.
The discovery was made by Dinh Van Thanh, a resident of Dak Po District, who found numerous bone fragments while excavating his house foundation and reported the find to authorities.
An inspection team was deployed to the site, where they uncovered not only bone fragments but also various wartime artifacts, including buttons, canteens, ballpoint pens, rubber shoe soles, bullet belts, carbine rounds, wallets, combs, cigarette holder handles, and copper bracelets.
The team has since expanded the search area and is exhuming and collecting each set of remains.
