Three people in HCMC were arrested Wednesday for hiding cannabis inside packets of tea and selling them.

Tran Nhat Vinh, 29, Tran Tri Minh Sang, 21, and Luu Thi Thai were arrested by Tan Binh District police as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

Police raided Vinh’s house on Nguyen Hong Dao Street and discovered 12 kg of dried cannabis. Another raid at a nearby house resulted in Sang’s arrest and a further 20 kg of cannabis leaves seized.

Vinh said he met a person named Nang, whose identity has not been verified, in August last year. Nang said he would provide cannabis for Vinh, which he could then dry and hide inside packets of weight-loss tea.

Nang also provided cannabis seeds for Thai to plant in Dak Lak in the Central Highlands. Once matured, the plan was to harvest them for Vinh to sell HCMC.

The investigation is ongoing.
